As a part of the launch of the Passed Recordings Label, we decided to do a short interview with each of our artists. This time we have a short chat with YAROSLAVA!, an Ambient & Electronic artist from Portland.

What inspired you to start making music?
When I was 18 or 19 I got a MacBook that came with GarageBand. In high school, I used to take a two hour class about video and audio and we would use Final Cut Pro and make sound effects in GarageBand. So, when I had that again I decided to edit drums and musical loops into something completely different and I realized I could make actual formatted songs instead of random, second long mp3s.
How do you make your music?
So, I got my hands on a totally legal, cracked copy of FL Studio and I would use the in-DAW synths, drum machine, and keyboard thingy and would make all my sounds in there. I’d export it as mp3s and drag them in GarageBand, because it was easier to click and drag everything. But now I have Logic Pro X (which is just GarageBand with bigger boobs), so now I only use that because I kinda hate FL studio…
How would you describe the kind of music you make?
I make angelic ambience or electronic gender fuck music. I’m either working on some ethereal bullshit with the same four chords and textures, or I’m trying to make some electronic mind fuck. I do all the ambient stuff myself but I do get a lot of help with experimental electronic stuff because its soooo much more complicated. Cat Rendezvous is my musical partner and they’re so talented and experienced and have helped me with ‘NARCISSUS’ and my debut album I’m working on called ‘CAN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR BEFORE YOU LEAVE?’ – which is very much a jack in the box plugged into a synth.
How would you like your music to affect others?
I make music for myself at the end of the day. I really only make it because I feel like its music that’s missing currently. When I make it I like to think of it as this puzzle coming together and if other people have the puzzle pieces too I’d love to see the picture were all able to make.
I just hope people like my music as much as I like it.
